A BIT of Help.

I have come to the realization that I sound like a b**** in my blog lately. Do not be mistaken, I LOVE and truly Enjoy healing and helping others! If you are ever in need to a helping hand be it healer, tank or dps, I am there.
I'm just mostly sickened by the fact that sometimes I spent hours helping others (sometimes even people I already know) w/o a single thanks and, when it happens often, it can get to you.
I enjoy helping people and doing things with others but it just irks me to see people abuse the fact that others are willing to help, as I'm sure most of you have noticed as well.
I don't mind helping people who are also new to any content. I am not an elitist by any means. If you've never seen Titan EX and want help, I'm willing to. I'll explain as best as I can and even if you die, I'll still help gladly. That is not what bothers me, is the sense of entitlement people have these days.
Feel free to send me a shout or tell anytime @Kara Wolfgang!
Kara out.

Ranting a BIT

Even though a lot of things annoy me lately about being the one healer people go to, I do know that it is definitely the job I enjoy the most. What I do not like, however, is that people assume you’ll do good no matter what and they tend to not care about eating AOEs or not doing their job correctly, but yet when they die its because “They got no heals.”
I usually do literally facepalm when I hear these complaints. You got no heals? Uhm, I dunno, the tank just got hit with Ravensbeak and you expect me to heal YOU instead? I’m sorry, are you more important than the tank? How about you stop getting hit by AOEs that could have been easily avoided instead of thinking that because its been ‘nerfed’ it is okay to take the damage?
And then when no one dies and the raid is done and awesome, not ONE person acknowledges your work. No one says ‘hey, we did good, thanx, random healer!’
Is it so hard? I like to pay attention at who is doing what and even compliment others if I see them doing well! And then people wonder why you don’t want to play anymore. Actually it gets worse: It sucks when people don’t recognize what you do for them and just expect you to help them with everything without ever thanking you (and then stealing the loot you really wanted after hours of helping them!) but won’t try to do anything else with other people because they just know it just wouldn’t be as easy…
And then comes the time I decide I really really want to DPS (Been working lately on gearing up my DRG) and we stay in PF for a while only to realize that w/o healers or tanks people just won’t join as easily.  So what do I do? I switch to healer or tank because others would rather not have the ‘stress’ or ‘responsibility.’ As if it is MY job to make everything easier for you. Would it hurt you to try to do something harder once in a while? What’s the point of having other jobs 110+ if you are not going to use them? And then what is the point of taking loot I really want for jobs I’ll actually use instead of just having them to look pretty? I feel for my husband as well, as he used to tank every single time for us until others started ‘wanting’ the tank gear and taking it from him. Now he sticks to his BRD but again, when the PF won’t fill, we go to the jobs no one else wants to do…
Of course, I’m not saying that is what everybody is like but in my party’ing days I’ve come across that way too often.
Then there is the other side of the coin. I have also come across great people who I’ve come to respect. I’ve been trying to get T9 down lately and even tho I’ve been unsuccessful, there’s been this specific player who has party’d with us (hubby and myself) almost every time and he’s had the patience to explain the phases to us and give us tips. I’m really looking forward to clearing T9 and know the raid well so that I can help as well and stop feeling like a noob.
By the way, if anyone has practice or has cleared T9 and is willing to help out a WHM friend, I’m up for it! I feel confident all the way to the elemental phase, but I got no experience after that! Send me a /tell sometime. Hubby and BRD, PLD and SCH and I can WHM and PLD ^^, and my bro can BLM/PLD/WHM as well. (Funny how us three have usable healers and tanks).
/tell Kara Wolfgang anytime!

Peace and long life.

Why a Healer?

There are many reasons people choose a healer class as their main: They enjoy healing, they like the responsibility, they are lovely and patient people, or they do it for faster queues.

If you are of the latest kind, I applaud you. It isn't easy doing a job if you don't love it but must do for the sake of your FC/LS/Friends/Queue times.

If you aren't of this type and you truly do enjoy the job and the responsibilities that come with it, huzzah! You will walk through the world of Eorzea knowing that there are very few of us that are good. If you are, then you know you'll be immensely treasured amongst your peers.

If you get peers that remind you of this, great! Us healers are really usually taken for granted. It is rare to hear someone say 'Hey, you're great! Thank you for helping me out'. If you are low level, start getting used to hearing "I died! Ugh, you suck" - be it your fault or not. It isn't easy knowing most people notice a healer when they're bad, and never thank one when they are good. Don't let this discourage you! Healing is a very rewarding job.

If you are barely starting in your healer class there are a few things you must remember:

A lot of us try to level as fast as possible and skimp on gear through the levels. As a healer it is important that you have fairly decent gear for the lower level dungeons. This will make healing a lot easier on you, specially since your healing powers are limited in these levels. I personally prefer leveling using fates, but if you really want to know your job like the back of your hand, make sure to run dungeons as well. Don't spend too much buying the best stuff though, since you will be getting gear from dungeons that you can use for a few levels. Just make sure you aren't healing a level 44 dungeon on item level 15 gear.

There really isn't too much to say to a lower level healer except to keep going on. You will grow to be mighty and powerful. But have patience. As I mentioned before, unless you have friends that will go with you the whole way, it is very likely your party will wipe more than once. Remember it isn't always your fault.

Prioritize. Healing requires quick thinking sometimes. As the levels get higher (or the players cockier), it is likely that in many occasions you'll find a tank or dps members that will take on more than the can/should handle. It is important that you realize your priority is the tank. As long as he has enmity on the marks and he and yourself are not taking unnecessary AOE attack your priority is healing Him/Her. Example: If your tank has very low hp and the BLM is about to die... You let that BLM die. Get used to this because on higher level things and endgame sometimes you'll have DPS who are taking in too much damage that they shouldn't be taking while the Tank is getting massive damage.

Being a healer is a lot of fun so don't let people saying stuff discourage you. Nobody becomes an expert overnight. You just keep going and practicing so that you can be the best healer you can possibly be.

Also, as you get geared for endgame content and start making parties for them, as a healer you'll be able to see what other members are doing. This makes them incredible party leaders. So don't be afraid and go out there!!

Anyway......... So this was like.. a random rant from a WHM who gets taken for granted most of the time. So again, if you get a party that values what you do, I salute you!! Stick with them, they're worth it.

A White Mage Entry

Although I may include guides, this blog isn't going to be necessarily about BiS gear or specific healer guides. This is my blog to what a White Mage's life is like in Eorzea each day. From standing in front of the Company House talking to FC members, to being blamed for wiping a party - Even though there really is ONLY SO MUCH a White Mage can do. We can't miraculously heal through all the unnecessary damage taken by ALL DEM AOES YOU DECIDE TO EAT. I am awesome. You are not.   *teehee* <- This way people think I'm not being serious.  LOL.

I don't know if other servers are actually kind to my people, but Balmung certainly isn't. In a world full of Ninjas, derpy Dragoons, Mages made of paper and squishy power-leveled tanks with item level 120, White Mages (and SCH) can be cast to the shadows and become under-appreciated.

Now, don't hate me! I'm not saying all these jobs are the same. In my time in Balmung, I've met some exceptional tanks and DPS' as well as fellow healers who I appreciate a lot.

I had a point...

Ah yes, my blog.

So yeah, it is mostly about the little things healers do or live each day - specifically, White Mages. I don't have any experience as a SCH except for what I see my hubby do, which usually isn't much because at the moment I'm also either WhiteMageing (lul) or Tanking (and I admit, I may be a bit of a squishy tank. I don't have as much experience on it as I'd like)

Anyway, follow me as I travel to the world of Eorzea, in my quest to be the best White Mage I can be, even if that isn't the top healer in the server ^^
